Obi Ofulue 1 ascended the throne of Ubulu Uku on the 4th of September, 1925, and reigned till 1964. His basic accomplishment were in the fields of education and religion. It was under him that religion flourished brightest. He encouraged the missionaries, took to Christianity, and was very active in the church. It was during his reign that the Christians were permitted to come to the palace to pack away many works of art which had been used in animal worship. Most of these works were burnt, while several priceless ones were sent to the British museum. It was also under him that the present Anglican Church in Ubulu Uku was built. He in fact was responsible with others, physically, for its building. He was a devout Anglican. Not withstanding this, he also allowed the flourishing of other denominations of the Christian faith. With the churches of course came the schools. The Anglicans, then the catholics, were the first to introduce formal schools into Ubulu Uku during Ofulue 1’s reign.
